Teams of 10 persons will commit to walk a mile per turn in relay fashion over the duration of 24 hours. Participants not actively walking/jogging take part in a program of recreational activities, eating, camping or sleeping, depending on the hour. The cost to participate is $300.00 per ten-member team, or $250 for youth teams on scholarships. Lend a hand! AND – Sponsor, organize and/or join a participating team! Our goal is 45 teams, youth, adult, business, community groups, churches, school district, university students, staff, faculty, clubs, classes, residence halls, sports teams, and more.

The activity brings together many elements of our communities for fun and youth support. Funds generated by entry fees and pledged support are used in the communities of Monmouth and Independence for projects designed to combat substance abuse by youth. Through mini-grants, the Challenge helps fund existing programs such as YMCA, Nite Court, Central Sports and others as well as supports new endeavors consistent with this goal.
