| What is the Community Foundation? What are the Purposes of the Foundation? The Foundation provides financial support for educational, civic, recreational, and cultural activities, programs, institutions, facilities, and organizations and those serving youth and promoting the health, safety, and general welfare principally of persons residing within the boundaries of the Central 13J School District. Basically, anything which might be of benefit to the greater Independence-Monmouth community and its residents is within the general purpose of the foundation. The Foundation:

Please understand, however, that the Foundation cannot provide you with legal, financial, or estate planning advise. For that, you should work with and attorney, accountant, financial planner, insurance agent, or other professional with experience in the areas of estate planning and charitable gifting. |
Are Gifts Tax Deductible?
Yes. The Internal revenue Service has declared the Monmouth-Independence Community Foundation exempt from income tax under the provisions of Section 501(c)3 of the Internal Revenue Code. A contribution to the Trust is a charitable gift, under the Internal Revenue Code as it exists today, and qualifies as a deduction the same as a gift to any other charity. A receipt will be provided to you when you make a contribution. Memorial Gifts The Foundation accepts gifts of $5000 or more. These gifts are received in memory of former citizens of our community. Four memorial gifts have been received in memory of Stephen Pfaff, Corinne M. Boyd, Matthew R. Thompson, and Helen K. Thompson. Who is on the Board? The Foundation Board consists of nine community members. Four members represent the four specific areas noted under purposes, and five others are members of the community-at-large. Central High Scholarships
Scholarships are provided for Central High graduates who will further their education. Monies may be used for tuition, books, or other expenses associated with pursuing post high school education. Classroom Enrichment This program is designed to provide modest funds for Central 13J teachers to enrich the curriculum in their classrooms. Mini-grants are awarded for creative and innovative ideas. Each year a number of projects are funded. Independence Public Library This fund will be devoted to supporting and developing the public library by acquiring books, periodicals, and other materials and technological equipment, personnel costs, the development and construction of a new library, and adult and children's programs. Monmouth Public Library The purpose of this fund is to support the mission and development of the library. Income from endowment funds and designated gifts will be used to initiate new programs, services, and collections and to enhance existing ones. Funds may be used for collection materials, personnel, and professional services, equipment and supplies, grant "matches", capitol improvement campaigns, or for miscellaneous expenditures on service and facility projects. Normally, the fund will not be used to support routine operational costs. In the event of unusual economic conditions, however, the income may be allocated to help maintain basic services to children and adults. |
