Independence Police Officer Position

Applicants;

This is to acknowledge your application for the Police Officer position and to advise you of the steps in the process.

We will be giving the OACP Police Officer Selection Test (POST). If you have taken the test at another agency within the last 6 months and wish to transfer your scores you will have to obtain those scores from that agency yourself. Please have them submit these scores on official letter head from that agency. If you are taking the test at our agency you a fee of $12 will be charged for the test. The test will be held on March 8 at two different times. One will be at 2:00 p.m. and the other at 6:00 p.m. We will administer the test at the Polk County Fire District (1800 Monmouth St., Independence) in their training room at the back of the facility. Please arrive 15 minutes before the test. We would also like you to RSVP which test you will be attending in order to know how much seating will be needed. You must have a least a 70% on each of the four sections of the test to pass.

The next step will be ORPAT, the physical fitness test.
        Click HERE for info.
The top 20 applicants after the written test will be asked to return for this phase of the testing.

You will need to go to our web site at www.independencepolice.org/currentprocess.html to check if you are one of the top 20.

No phone calls will be made to inform you of your status. ORPAT will be offered two times. The first test will be on March 14 at 6:00 p.m. and the other on March 18 at 6:00 p.m. This test will be administered at the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training in Monmouth, Oregon. You may attend one or both. If you do not pass the first test on March 14 you may come back to the March 18 test to attempt again. If you only come to the March 18 test date you will not be allowed to take it again. Information on this test can be seen at this link .

All applicants who pass the ORPAT will be given the background packet to complete within one week and return to our office.

The top 6 to 8 applicants after all test scores, ORPAT and incentive points have been compiled, will be invited for an oral interview. This interview will be held on Tuesday March 29 between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. These oral boards will be held at the Independence Police Department.

The remainder of the applicants will be maintained on a list for future interview if needed.
